A group of dedicated charity fund-raisers have hit the road again to raise vital cash for a worthy cause.

Twelve super-fit cyclists from Northallerton and District Round Table have just completed their fifth annual bike ride, raising £1,600 for a children’s charity in the process.

The gruelling three-day ride took the group, plus their two support men, on an 83-mile tour of the Yorkshire Dales and included 10,000 feet of climbs and such scenic delights as Skipton, Settle, Malham, Aysgarth and Reeth.

This year's proceeds have been donated to the Foundation for Sudden Infant Death, which supports the Care of Next Infant scheme in Hambleton and Richmondshire.

The charity offers help to families who have suffered a cot death and have other children. Crucially, the families are provided with monitors to enable them to check more easily on a child that could be at risk and the money raised will buy four monitors.

Each year, the round table chooses a different charity to support and has so far raised almost over £14,000 with past beneficiaries being the Rutson Palliative Care Ward in Northallerton, Scout Link, Breast Awareness, and the Great North Ambulance.

A vital element of the expedition - this year called the Tewer et Dales - is the key sponsorship from Simon Bailes Peugeot in Northallerton, which supplies the cyclists with a van to act as a support vehicle.

Simon Wilson, who organised this year's trip, said: "The bike ride has become one of our annual fund-raising events, which we all thoroughly enjoy, despite it being pretty tough.

"We really couldn't do the ride without the support vehicle, so we can't thank Simon Bailes Peugeot highly enough for their help. The van allows us to transport everything we need with us for the duration of the route."

Simon Bailes Managing Director said: "Helping our local community is very important to everyone at Simon Bailes Peugeot.

"That's why the coast-to-coast cycle ride is a great opportunity to help raise funds for numerous good causes. Everyone involved works extremely hard to make sure it is a great success and each year the members raise many thousands of pounds and I am proud to be able to support them again this year."
