Tees Valley youngster Samantha Downes has earned a dream scholarship to one of the North-east's top schools.

The 11-year-old from Whinfield in Darlington has just started at the town's Polam Hall School after being awarded the Simon Bailes Scholarship - an annual prize that gives gifted children the chance of an outstanding education.

YOUNGSTERS still suffering from the fall out after the world’s biggest ever nuclear accident have enjoyed a clean air break in the region with the help of local companies Simon Bailes Peugeot and Noble Self Drive.

The two firms have again joined forces to provide a minibus to help local charity the Friends of Chernobyl Children transport the children during their stay.
