X Factor and Fame Academy Stars Shine for Teesside's "Party on the Pitch"
Mon, 14 May 2007
Football and music fans from around the Tees Valley are being encouraged to support a growing local football club by joining them at a nine hour open air music extravaganza this Bank Holiday Weekend.
Party on the Pitch, which takes place on Bank Holiday Saturday May 26th, is headlined by highly acclaimed Queen, Bon Jovi and Bryan Adams tribute bands, supported by the cream of local talent including the Beer Pigs, Fallen, Rhythm Method and Sugarstone.
As an added bonus, BBC Fame Academy’s Alistair Griffin and X Factor stars, Journey South, are giving special guest performances to help support the club’s ambitions.
The event is being held to raise much needed funds for Guisborough Town Football Club and its community sports plans. The club faced extinction just eighteen months ago but, following a take over by new owners, is emerging as a successful club once again. It now has three senior sides and six youth sides which the management sees as a growing priority.
Simon Bailes Peugeot, which has three branches including one in Guisborough, is one of the main sponsors of the event, and is supporting Party on the Pitch as part of its Working in the Community programme.
Managing director, Simon Bailes, commented: “As part of our continued commitment to grassroots sport we support a range of activities throughout the region and are particularly passionate about the ongoing development of young people. Guisborough Town Football Club’s enthusiasm for supporting young people and sport is a perfect illustration of how local communities can work together to achieve great things. Party on the Pitch will offer a fantastic opportunity to celebrate this and also to boost much needed funds which will ultimately be used to develop the football club as a whole.”
Sandy Mackenzie, Chairman of Guisborough Town FC, added: “So many people have worked so hard to make both Guisborough Town and this event a major success. We couldn’t do it without the support of local businesses, like Simon Bailes, and we are thrilled with the interest we have had so far. We’re even promised warm, sunny weather and we’re hoping the event will be a sell-out so we can develop our teams, both senior and youth and the women’s team which will start later this year.”
Party on the Pitch begins at 1pm on Saturday May 26th at Guisborough Town Football Club, Howlbeck Road, Guisborough TS14 6LE, with the event compered by Century FM presenters Scott and Lisa. There are on-site bar and catering facilities available and people can also bring along a picnic.
Tickets, priced £10 for children under 14 and £20 for adults in advance, are still on sale at three Tourist Information Centres – Guisborough 01287 633801, Saltburn 01287 622422, Redcar 01642 471921. For more details visit www.partyonthepitch.co.uk
